The compressor and the condenser are usually located on the outside portion of the air conditioner. The working fluid reaches at the compressor as a chilled, low-pressure gas. The compressor then condenses the fluid which renders the molecules of the fluid to stay together. The working fluid used in cold storage to cool low-temperature chambers and throw heat into high-temperature environments is refrigerant. So far refrigerant used in cold storage is Hydrochloroflourocarbons (HCFC) that is R-22.

Generally for storage of a single commodity, these mostly operate on a seasonal basis e.g., stores for potato, chillies, apples and so on. 2. Multipurpose Cold Stores – These are designed for storage of variety of commodities which operate, practically, round the year. Generally, cold storage is cooled by refrigerator, using the liquid with low gasification temperature as refrigerant, making it evaporate under the condition of low pressure and mechanical control and absorb the heat in the cold storage, finally to achieve the purpose of cooling.
