Copper Coiled

Magnet wire is copper wire with a special enameled coating. The coating acts as insulator, this allows the wire to be wrapped many times in a coil (circle). Maxwell showed us that when wire is wrapped in a coil the electrons passing thru the wire will create a magnetic field perpendicular to the current flow. Copper coils are used to minimize resistive heating from the high alternating current, and the coil is water cooled to prevent melting due to the high-power input. The solenoid becomes an electromagnet when a current flows through it. Why use copper? Copper is used because it has a low electrical resistance (see conducting properties). This means that it is easy for the current to flow through it. Coil, in an electric circuit, one or more turns, usually roughly circular or cylindrical, of current-carrying wire designed to produce a magnetic field or to provide electrical resistance or inductance; in the latter case, a coil is also called a choke coil (see also inductance).

There are 2 different types of 'coil'; one has copper on it (IUD) and the other contains hormone (Mirena IUS). Both are over 99% effective at protecting against pregnancy. How does it work? A small T-shaped device containing plastic and copper/hormone is put into the uterus (womb). Copper is the most common of the electrical conducting wires and is the most used for electrical coils. It has low electrical resistance and allows current to easily flow through it. A major factor in its use is that it can be configured and shaped to produce any form of coil.
