EPABX stands for Electronic Private Automatic Branch Exchange which is a private telephone network used by the organizations and the companies for various types of communication, either between the employees or outside the clients. If PBX says, it has 512 lines, it means all 512 people can talk, while intercom may have 512 lines, but it will have 50 speech path which means, only 25 pair of people can talk to each other. If the 51st person lifts his handset, he would hear, this trunk busy! Most probably this is the major drawback of intercom. EPABX is an abbreviation that stands for Electronic Private Automatic Branch Exchange. It comes under the category of Business Phone Systems which serve a Business Environment. Multi-line connections can be made through a Single Telephonic Connection.

The same is not in the case with traditional EPABX. Communications within the same organization, but located at different geographical locations, is possible only with IP based PBX. IP-PBX allows inter-office connectivity. The EPABX works exactly like an exchange that sends, receives, and forward calls from the organization to the outside world. Several lines coming from the outside of the building ends at the PBX. Besides, several lines coming from inside the building also terminate at the PBX switchboard.
