The grid-connected PV systems consist of the bi-directional inverter, PV panels, battery system, smart meter, direct current (DC) bus system, and alternating current (AC) bus, as shown in Fig. 2.8 with their respective functions. What is a grid-tied solar system? A grid-tied system uses solar panels to generate electricity from sunlight. Excess power is exported to the utility grid, and similarly, when the household requires more power, those needs are met by imports from the grid. The required solar panels are: For 1 KW solar system – 3 panels (335 watt each) For 2 KW solar system – 6 panels (335 watt each) For 5 KW solar system – 15 panels (335 watt each)
