Hard disk, also called hard disk drive or hard drive, magnetic storage medium for a computer. Hard disks are flat circular plates made of aluminum or glass and coated with a magnetic material. Hard disks for personal computers can store terabytes (trillions of bytes) of information. The hard disk is where the actual information or instructions or data is written onto. But the hard disk drive is a device that enable the hard disk to store information. So here, the hard drive becomes the storage device that assist or help the hard disk ( storage media) to store information. You can run a computer without a hard drive or ssd, however the computer will only boot into the Bios (Basic input output system) and you could not run Windows or another OS. So yes, you could run a computer without a hard disk.

As of 2021, most of the optical disc drives on the market are DVD-ROM drives and BD-ROM drives which read and record from those formats, along with having backward compatibility with CD, CD-R and CD-ROM discs; compact disc drives are no longer manufactured outside of audio devices.
