High Nickel Content Alloys
High Nickel Content AlloysInconel alloys, UNS N08825 and UNS N06625, are the most widely used high nickel alloys in the oil industry. They are usually more expensive than the duplex stainless steel alloys. High nickel alloys are used in both solid forgings and as weld cladding on less expensive low-alloy steel substrate. Nickel alloy is formed by combining nickel with other metals, commonly titanium, copper, aluminum, iron, and chromium. Approximately 3,000 nickel-based alloys are in use, forming products for numerous industries. The alloying element that makes steel 'stainless' is chromium; however it is the addition of nickel that enables stainless steel to become such a versatile alloy. ... In fact, nickel is so important that nickel-containing grades make up 75% of stainless steel production.
Nichrome (also known as NiCr, nickel-chromium or chromium-nickel) is a family of alloys of nickel, chromium, and often iron (and possibly other elements) commonly used as resistance wire, heating elements in things like toasters and space heaters, in some dental restorations (fillings) and in a few other applications.
