Other-Fabric Scraps
Other-Fabric ScrapsAll clothes in good condition are then sent to wholesalers in developing countries where local market traders sell them on. Damaged clothes that can't be fixed are sent to a recycling facility where they're separated, shredded and turned into new materials. Scraps are derived from discarded material that still have monetary value and can be recycled. Obsolete scrap comes from end-of-life used products while prompt, prime, or new scrap is generated by the manufacturing process from forms like metal clippings and turnings. Although the customer might provide the fabric it was a tradition that the seamstress or tailor was entitled to the extra scraps. This was called the cabbage. The term seems related to a French verb cabbaser---to put in a basket. The dressmaker might keep a basket under the worktable for the cabbage.
Recycled cotton can be defined as cotton fabric converted into cotton fibre that can be reused in textile products. Cotton can be recycled from pre-consumer (post-industrial) and post-consumer cotton waste. Scrap metal is divided into two categories: ferrous and nonferrous. The distinguishing characteristic between the two types of metals is the presence of iron. Ferrous metals contain iron while nonferrous do not. Therefore, anything that's made out of steel is going to be a ferrous metal.
