Turning Scrap

Turnings, also known as filings, shavings or chips in some circles, are the debris or waste resulting from manufacturing processes that remove layers or parts of a particular material to produce a finished product.Scrap metal is divided into two categories: ferrous and nonferrous. The distinguishing characteristic between the two types of metals is the presence of iron. Ferrous metals contain iron while nonferrous do not. Therefore, anything that's made out of steel is going to be a ferrous metal.Production scrap Production scrap means excess or unusable material that is generated during a production process and is returned to be reused in the same production process.

Scrap quality is a limiting factor for increased scrap use. Certain types of scrap contain high quantities of trace elements. High-quality steel requires a low trace element content. In the current practice, scrap is used for lower quality steel grades, such as reinforcement bars.Scrap consists of recyclable materials left over from product manufacturing and consumption, such as parts of vehicles, building supplies, and surplus materials. Unlike waste, scrap has monetary value, especially recovered metals, and non-metallic materials are also recovered for recycling.
